AARON and PETER looked proud and a trifle bewildered as they emerged after the ceremony. In his address, city mayor IVO OPSTELTEN claimed that obtaining a Dutch driving licence was for PETER the real reason to get married. But we know better: after sixteen years it was simply time to tie the knot.
The international status of the marriage became clear to Society after the following item from our New York Society colleagues was spotted in The Architect's Newspaper:
WEDDING BELLS FOR BETSKY
Netherlands Architecture Institute director, former SFMOMA design
curator, and transatlantic fixture Aaron Betsky is about to tie the knot
with his longtime partner, artist Peter Haberkorn. The June 26th wedding
ceremony will mark the couple's sixteenth anniversary and will take
place in Holland-which accords equal status to same-sex marriages-at
Rotterdam's City Hall. We hear Steven Holl will document the occasion in
watercolor while Peter Eisenman sings Ave Maria and Daniel Libeskind
jumps out of a cake.
Neither Holl, Eisenman nor Libeskind were spotted by the photographer. But that didn't dampen the festive mood, however, as the cast of international celebrities in attendance made clear.
