The European Centre for Architecture, Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design have announced the selection of the most important emerging European design talent for 2010; this years 40 Under 40. One of the winners, Laura Alvarez, also won the first prize of the competition Customize me! organized by Heijmans Vastgoed & Woningbouw.
Amongst the winners of the prestigious 40 Under 40 Award are Patrick de Louwere and Bart Eijking (Studio Lawrence designers), Joost Mulders and Chris van den Berk (Mulders vandenBerk Architects), Ralf Pasel (pasel.kuenzel architects), Coen Kampstra (FARO Architecten) and Laura Alvarez. The winners are described by the jury as "the next generation of architects and design professionals who will impact future living and working environments".
Heijmans Vastgoed & Woningbouw organized a competition and invited ten architectural offices to give their vision about flexible realistic new concept of housing. Laura Alvarez proposal was awarded with the 1st prize by unanimity of the jury. They considered the project feasible, from the urban point of view as well as from the research on typologies.
