ten design teams have been selected by President Obama’s Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force to proceed to Stage Two of Rebuild by Design, a multi-stage regional design competition that will develop innovative projects to protect and enhance Sandy-affected communities.
Following Stage Two, Van Alen Institute will work in partnership with Regional Plan Association and Municipal Art Society of New York to collaboratively facilitate the Design Phase, in which teams will work to develop implementable solutions addressing the opportunities identified through the research and analysis process. Teams will develop site-specific design proposals in partnership with a local or state government entity to identify specific sites and projects that will improve the resilience of communities. Resulting projects will be evaluated by the Rebuild by Design jury, comprised of world-renowned experts in hazard mitigation, resilience, public health, landscape architecture, urbanism, real estate, design, and other fields.
