Call for abstracts: “Territoriality and Temporality in Architecture”
Oproep
The International Committee of Architectural Critics (CICA) invites researchers, academics, and professionals to submit their abstracts for the conference “Territoriality and Temporality in Architecture”, which will take place online on October 18–19 and 25–26, 2025.
How do buildings establish and engage with territories? How do temporalities manifest themselves in buildings? How do architects deal with multiple temporalities and territorialities? How do buildings live and die?
By exceeding the modernist categories of space and time to contemporary notions of territorialities and temporalities, we move from nouns to adjectives, from immutable and fixed ideas of reality to multiple, socially produced, and unstable qualities. Special attention will be given to how architecture engages with the past, present, and future in discussing the ecological and social potentials they convey.
Following the previous CICA Conferences (2021-2024), the 2025 conference seeks papers that critique built projects’ temporal and/or territorial qualities.
The event will feature Anne Lacaton (France), Marina Tabassaum (Bangladesh), Rozana Montiel Saucedo (Mexico) and Simone AbdouMaliq (Sierra Leone – UK) as keynote speakers.
