INDESEM 2019 – Beyond the Echo Chamber

INDESEM, International Design Seminar, is a biennale founded by a group of students in 1962 with help from Jaap Bakema and members of TEAM X and reinitiated in 1986 by Herman Hertzberger. The week consists of lectures, excursions, exhibitions, debates and a workshop, all organized around a specific contemporary theme. Every edition aims to raise awareness about this theme and its consequences for the architectural practice. 80 students from around the world will work on an accompanying design project, tackling important questions. The seminar provides an environment in which students, tutors, architects and theorists engage in conversation and discussion about the current and future position of the architect within society.
Since its founding INDESEM has had the honor of hosting internationally acclaimed architects and theorists, such as Aldo van Eyck, Jean Nouvel, Rem Koolhaas, Renzo Piano, Greg Lynn, Saskia Sassen, Winy Maas, Sou Fujimoto and Ben van Berkel.

Another edition of INDESEM is on its way! From 10 – 17 May 2019, 80 students from all over the world will work on a design project accompanied by lectures from and discussions with renowned architects and theorists.
