Full Professor in Architectural Research
Eindhoven University of Technology zoekt een:
The Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) invites applications for two fulltime (1,0 – 0,8 FTE) positions of Full Professor of Architectural Research and Design in the unit of Architecture, Urban Design and Engineering (AUDE).
AUDE
The unit AUDE integrates architecture with engineering to address complex spatial challenges, focusing on creating resilient built environments and on the transformative potential of design. With a commitment to both historical and theoretical discourse as well as the contemporary practice of architecture, AUDE approaches the built environment from a combined perspective where thinking and doing are mutually reinforcing. This position is made explicit in both education and research. Ultimately, AUDE stands for critical and innovative attitudes toward social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental issues, leveraging scholarship, design and technology to propose inventive solutions for the pressing issues in our built environment, today and into the future.
We are seeking to fill two positions of Professor and Chair of Architectural Research and Design. Candidates are expected to be appointable at the rank of Full Professor. We are interested in applicants currently at Associate Professor (or equivalent) level, who bring a robust research track record, clarity of research focus, and teaching experience appropriate to promotion to Full Professor as part of the recruitment process.
Chair positions include research, teaching, and management obligations. While research focus is open, we are especially interested in colleagues with rich knowledge and experience in architectural design and design methods, and whose approach pushes the boundaries of that knowledge towards the pressing challenges of the present. We also are interested in understanding how these approaches complement AUDE’s existing chairs.
The successful candidate will manage a team of academics engaged in research, and will be responsible for delivering studio education at both the BA and MA level, as well as core lecture courses and seminars. The Chair is expected to bring in research funding and attract PhDs.
Job requirements
– You hold a PhD in Architecture or a related field.
– You have an exceptional talent to elevate AUDE’s architecture research and education to the highest level.
– You have a curiosity-driven research agenda related to spatial design (both research-based and design-oriented) that is articulated in relationship to contemporary discourse and practice. This should be demonstrated through a research track record appropriate to the field.
– Your research engages with societal challenges already being addressed by other units within the department (from housing to the transformation of existing buildings; from energy transition and climate change to circularity) or complements them.
– Your research has generated funding opportunities and/or shows the potential to do so.
– You have extensive teaching experience in design studio, both as a generalist and particular to your research arena, in both BA and MA courses.
– You have experience and/or aptitude for teaching in lecture and seminar formats, both generally and appropriate to your expertise, across BA and MA courses.
– You have experience mentoring PhDs and advanced MA students in your field or sub-field.
– You have the capacity to stimulate and/or join multivocal collaborations across the unit and department, facilitating ongoing and new projects, by engaging in the dynamic approaches to architecture and the built environment already present within the unit.
– You have managerial experience in research management or departmental administration, suitable for running a research Chair and the capacity for contributing to the unit’s management, including, when appropriate, serving as Unit Head.
– You have a strong national and international collaborative network.
